So you're heard the slogan - Famous For Potatoes. That's fine but really there is so much more you should know about the surprisingly diverse state of Idaho. GEOGRAPHY: First, Idaho is a big state, if you could flatten all the mountain in Idaho the state would be bigger then Texas. It covers two different time zones and runs from Nevada all the way up to Canada. It covers a big stretch of the western side of the continental diver of the Rock Mountains. The landscape is dominated by mountains, farmland, and rivers and - did we say - more mountains. In the North, what is called the panhandle part of the state is covered with pristine lakes tucked into the mountains. In the center, Idaho has jagged peaks. The Snake River Plain has big open vistas and vast stretch of irrigated farm land. Some vibrant cities too and they form the chater of Southern Idaho. HISTORY: AT the heart of Idaho history are its many and diverse Native American tribes. The arrival and exploration of the Lewis and Clark Expedition foretold the determined pioneers on the Oregon Trail. And today the state is both small town friendly and cosmopolitan at the same time. The capital and largest city is Boise which was developed near the Oregon Trails Fort Boise and has grown to a population of 190,000. Tourism is a major industry in Idaho along with agriculture, manufacturing and those beloved potatoes of course. TOURISM: Over 20 million tourists visit Idaho annually. And they know something you may not - this is a magnificent state waiting to be discovered. Spectacular scenery, a never ending list of activities and the kind of friendly helpful people most states would love to boast. It is also unhurried, unspoiled and unassuming. So you can linger awhile and discover Idaho. |
