About Chelan Town, Lake Chelan, Washington Click here to see lodging list

Located on the southeast tip of the Lake, the city of Chelan was originally once a Native American winter camp site. The Entiat called the site “Yenmusi Tsa,” which meant “Rainbow Robe.” They used the phrase to describe the beautiful play of light on the Lake’s water and the wide western sky. During the early 1880s German and Irish immigrants settled in the area.

To reduce stress, the peaceful Entiat agreed to transfer the present city site to the new settlers in exchange for their choice of land around the lake. Choosing wisely, they selected premiere site of present day Wapato Point (see below).

The city of Chelan is today the regional starting point for fun on the Lake. Here the skies are always bright with over 350 blue sky days each and every year. The summer weather is swimsuit perfect with the Lake’s temperate a refreshing 50 plus degrees.

Many visitors start their holiday by booking a round of golf at the beautiful Don Morse Park or making reservations to cruise the lake on the 56 foot Innamorata yacht, formerly owned by Dean Martin. There are wineries to visit as well as the Farmers’ Market where Chelan’s famous apples and artisan cheeses can be purchased. Jet skis can be rented or a relaxing massage arranged. Bowling and pizza are available as well as gourmet winemaker dinners. There are summer evening firework shows each year as well as the annual Bach Fest.

In short, this lakeside community of 3,500 offers a wealth of activities and holiday memories to visitors, all with a welcoming smile. Come and discover one of America’s still pristine resort areas, waiting for you beside the glistening waters of Lake Chelan.
