Situated on picturesque Bellingham Bay, the town of Bellingham is located 85 miles north of Seattle and 20 miles south of the Canadian border. Just 54 miles south of Vancouver, B.C. Bellingham has a population of over 70,000 people and offers convenient ferry service to the San Juan Islands, Victoria, B.C. It is also the gateway to Alaska and the largest city in Whatcom County with a population of over 71,000. A growing community, Bellingham has a natural beauty and much to offer visitors and residents alike. It is especially popular for outdoor adventurers with its ocean waterfront, lakes, parks and golf courses. Plus it is the gateway to the North Cascade Mountains and the ski slopes of Mt. Baker. Of particular interest to vacation rental guests are the major resort community of Birch Bay and the exclusive resort of Semiahmoo. Plus world famous ski are and hiking destination of Mt. Baker is close by. All popular vacation rental destinations. The town is home to Western Washington University with an enrollment of 12,000 students and the counties largest employer. WWU is known for its athletics, summer stock theater and thriving community of artists who perform at the Performing Arts Center Series. Downtown Bellingham offers a friendly family downtown populated with retail shops, art galleries, restaurants and museums that boats a Downtown Renaissance Network. The Whatcom Museum of Art and History is in the original city hall building built in 1892, one of four buildings that make the museum well known as a children's museum. The area has a range of events for visitors such as the Ski to Sea parades in May the Allied Arts' Chalk Art Festival and the August Bellingham Festival of Music. In November there is an Allied Arts' Holiday Festival and the Arts Festival. In summer downtown Bellingham hosts Gallery Walks, ar Saturday Farmer's Market and Summer Alley Concerts. Bellingham's historic Fairhaven district is in the southern part of town. Formerly a turn-of-the-century boom town, Fairhaven has become a busy shopping district with original brick buildings intact. Enjoy galleries, restaurants, cafes, shops and galleries. You might even meet Dirty Dan and Sadie who lead visitors tours in the summer. |
