Go to Kee Beach early if you go this a 2 hour drive and gets very crowded by noon. Best restaurant nearby, hands down, is the Beach House. Far better than Roys or Patay Asian. Doing a river kayak trip on Wailua? We recommend Wailua Kayak and Canoe. It’s a local, family-run and you get a good sense of island history with them. If you’re thinking of doing the Kalalau trail, bring water proof shoes with good cleats as you will be hiking in lots of slick mud. Beautiful views in the first 2 miles of trail. Best day hike is the Nualolo to Nualolo cliffs to Awaauapuhi Trail loop. Amazing views. Wow. Trailhead at visitor centers near end of road in Waimea Canyon. If you like bicycling, try cane Coast road 1 mile up Poipu Road toward Koloa. Left at the vegetable stand. It takes you through sugar cane and coffee fields. If gates are closed, climb them. You’re only turned back if they are harvesting. — Anonymous |
